wood lice
« on: May 11, 2016, 09:03:25 21:03 »
Hello everyone. My system is now about 18 months old now and I have a lot of wood lice in my flood and drain beds, I have been reading about them and I am not sure if I should be concerned. They do not seem to be eating my plants and I think they eat dead or decaying plant matter.
The other issue is I have slugs in the beds any tips to get rid of them would be grateful, I have been turning over the hydroton by hand and picking them out. Any advice please. Thank you Craig.

Titus

Hi Craig
Woodlice? No idea. Will the fish eat them?
Slugs/snails. I use an iron based slug pellet bought from Wilkinson ( other suppliers are available) Fish safe. Some tendency to fungus under recent weather.
Slugs/snails I hate them.
Leave the AK 47 in the house and use tongs and a salt bucket.

Thanks Titus, i have been getting on top of the slugs just because I have had a purge on them, I will try some pellets around the cabbages. The wood lice I thought were not touching my plants but they have decimated some young cauliflowers I have just put in, They have stripped the whole plant, all that is left is the stalk.
